What is Victim Assist Queensland?

Victim Assist is information and advice for victims of crime. They can help you with your rights as a victim. Victim Assist may be able to help you pay for the things that will help you recover from a violent crime. Things like therapy from The Counselling Spot could be covered.

Can I apply for Victim Assist?

If someone intentionally hurts you that is not ok. It is a crime and you are a victim. Call Victim Assist on 1300 546 587 or use the online form. Ask them about counselling and other victim support services in your area. Ask them about financial assistance and how to apply.

You can only apply for financial assistance if:

  • you were directly injured (physically or psychologically)
  • it was caused by an act of violence
  • it happened in Queensland
  • it was reported to a relevant person
  • if you are claiming as a related victim, you only need to meet the injury requirement if you are claiming recovery expenses (e.g. medical or counselling expenses)

     

    Violence is never ok

    Phone 000 if a crime is happening now or when a life is threatened. 

    Phone 106 for National Relay Service (NRS) help if you are deaf or find it difficult to hear or speak over the phone. The NRS can help you if a crime is happening now or a life or your life is threatened.

    Phone 131 444 if you need police help, but it’s not an emergency.

    Violence is not an acceptable part of a culture. Victim Assist help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims of crime. They can help you to get advice, financial help, court support and legal services.

How do I apply for Victim Assist?

Call Victim Assist on 1300 546 587 (business hours) or use the Victim Assist online form to ask them about free or low-cost counselling, victim support services in your area, financial assistance, and how to apply.

  • you were directly injured (physically or psychologically)
  • it was caused by an act of violence
  • it happened in Queensland
  • it was reported to a relevant person
  • you were injured in relation to a violent crime
  • if you or someone in your care are in danger now, please call 000.
